Thinking Mans Man

Art with meaning:
"The world is like a ride at an amusemen park, and when you choose to go on it, you think it's real,
because that's how powerful our minds are. And the ride goes up and down and round and round and
it has thrills and chills and it's very brightly colored and it's very loud. And it's fun, for a while.
Some people have been on the ride for a long time, and they begin to question: 'Is this real? Or is this
just a ride?' And other people have remembered, and they come back to us and they say 'Hey! Don't
worry, don't be afraid - ever - because... this is just a ride."
And we kill those people.
'Shut him up! We have a lot invested in this ride! Shut him up! Look at my furrows of worry; look at my
big bank account and my family. This has to be real.'
It's just a ride. But we always kill those good guys who try and tell us that - ever notice that? - and we let
the demons run amok. But it doesn't matter, because... it's just a ride, and we can change it any time we
want. It's only a choice. No effort. No work. No job. No savings and money. Just a choice, right now
between fear and love."
More then ever, the world seems to be getting more and more absurd... and if you let yourself get caught
up in all the fear and anxiety, it will consume you like a tsunami. It had been consuming me for years now.
Until recently when I decided to make that simple mental switch that Bill Hicks was speaking of... now
when confronted with some of the very real, frightening events unfolding every day, it's much easier
to deal with when I just laugh at it and think about the bigger picture and "how absurd this all is".
So in my own personal work and in my life, it helps bring about some calm and joy to escape from the
absurdity of the world and remind myself that this is just a ride. So that's what this first print is about,
no matter how rough the seas get, you can escape it all by simply changing your mental outlook on what's
happening and enjoy the ride, rather then be afraid of it.

Stimulus- Something causing or regarded as causing a response.
Bail Out - Security, usually a sum of money, exchanged for the release of an arrested person as a guarantee of that person's appearance for trial.
I got a response for this thingy called a "stimulus" or "bail out". Please concentrate mainly on the definition above for the words bail out and please let me know when these people getting money will be going to trial. Now I preface this with letting everybody know that I voted and still have some faith left that Obama is going to do all he can to turn the country around in many different ways. I also believe that he was handed this problem, not from Bush, but from our own government who was to regulate all these douche bag companies and didnt. As I read more about this stuff the more and more I am finding out that I am considered a "conservative liberal" if there is such a thing.
Our government is taking our money and giving it to crooks, deadbeats and worst of all back to the government. Better yet they are actually taking our children's children's money and spending it incorrectly, in my opinion. 75 billion dollars pumped into a bad housing market and 800 billion pumped back into government jobs and entities. Worst of all mark my words their will be more this summer. How about some consumer confidence??? I am not sure if we need it or if its not big enough or whatever. But I do know that they have preached (probably correctly) that we are in the worst times of our lives and its getting old and not doing anything to stimulate a response from the american people.
Housing Bill: Companies are getting bailed out after screwing the american people. Now, these american people are to blame as well and got in way over their head on property they could not afford. So most of american sits here, pays their bills on time, dosent go into serious debt, only buys items it can afford, and gets to sit here watch these people get money left and right.
Not going to get into the stimulus package. I will reserve judgement for a later date. Obama - please dont let the government run our lives and please dont punish will of americans to grow, to make money, to "stimulate" the economy the old fashion way. By earning it.
After all the jacks are in their boxes
And the clowns have all gone to bed
You can hear happiness staggering on down the street
Footsteps dressed in red
And the wind whispers mary
A broom is drearily sweeping
Up the broken pieces of yesterdays life
Somewhere a queen is weeping
Somewhere a king has no wife
And the wind, it cries mary
The traffic lights, they turn, uh, blue tomorrow
And shine their emptiness down on my bed
The tiny island sags down stream
cause the life that lived is,
Is dead
And the wind screams mary
Uh-will the wind ever remember
The names it has blow in the past?
And with this crutch, its old age, and its wisdom
It whispers no, this will be the last
And the wind cries mary
P.S. This is me on Guitar Hero....

Bienvenido a casa
Well we are back. Sucks. Mexico was fantastic. Need to go back there soon. It was refreshing, recharging, and relaxing. Everybody should do it at least once every couple of years. Kids had a great time together. I dont really have much to say because my mind is still in NO THINK mode. Going to be tough going back to work tomorrow, but I can promise you that things wont bother me as much. Why? Because the one thing I learned in Mexico, more than the Spanish, was that we have a GREAT life. I was talking to our cab driver and he was so amazed that we spend so much time worrying about our animals, making movies about them, calling the cops or fire dept when they get stuck in a tree, etc. What he was trying to say in bad English is that we dont know how good we have it. Parts of Mexico and I am sure other countries could care less about dogs and cats as they have enough problems feeding themselves or their families, literally. Yes, we have poor here in the US but its a different type of poor there in Mexico. I once heard that the poor are getting poorer while the rich are getting richer. Please if you do anything right now save money, cut back on spending, fuck the rich that fuck us. Sorry also reading a Thoreau book right now and coming back to the US and seeing 15 different shops and 10 different restaurants in one block make me realize that we spend too much money on things we dont need (expect posters).
While at the pool I rocked the ipod to a lot of mellow yet talkative tunes. Mainly Bob Dylan. One of his songs (Mississippi) has a line in it that hit home while on vacation:
Every step of the way, we walk the line
Your days are numbered, so are mine
Time is piling up, we struggle and we stray
We're all boxed in, nowhere to escape
City's just a jungle, more games to play
Trapped in the heart of it, tryin' to get away
I was raised in the country, I been working in the town
I been in trouble ever since I set my suitcase down
Got nothing for you, I had nothing before
Don't even have anything for myself anymore
Sky full of fire, Pain pouring down
Nothing you can sell me, I'll see you around
I will leave you with some pics of our trip. Enjoy, I did!

Use Somebody

Well team Humps finished our relay in record time. 4 hours and 18 min. Not sure if its a World Record, Colorado Record, Denver Record or even a Vinyl Record, but we finished. My internal goal was that we finished under 4 hours. Maybe next time. It was very cool being able to run the first 6 mile leg and start off with thousands of people at the starting line. It was still dark outside and you could feel the emotion trying to hurry up the sun to rise. Crossing the starting line is very emotional and its kind of hard to explain so I wont try. TD ran out the second 4 mile leg and it was very cool to see her finish it out. My ultra running wife grabbed the third leg of 9 miles. She pushed it out in 1 hour plus time. She deserves all of the credit in this mess. She is the one that pushed us all do run, gave us all our training routine, etc. If it wasnt for her none of us would be getting our lives in better shape. Thank you honey!!!
Then came Josh. He ran the final leg which I am sure was the hardest due to the sun now being at full staff, it was getting a bit toasty. He had the 7 mile leg. We that were still waiting decided to run it in with him as a team. JD and I ran out the last 2+miles together and Heidi and TD ran out the last 1+ miles together to the finish line. Not sure about Josh, but it was very cool for me to run with my brother. I had the iPod blaring in my ears a couple of songs that I knew would help me push him to finish that bastard out. Josh, for some insane reason, dosent listen to music while he runs. Guess he likes the sound of heavy breathing and feet pounding concrete better; nuts if you ask me and I wouldnt have been able to do it without my music. I know, music and lyrics again.......sorry it brings out emotions in me that you wont hear in my daily activities.
So know what? Where do we go from here? What reason do we have to continue this madness? Well, for me I think Heidi is going to eventually talk me into running a half marathon with her. Although I think Josh has the better idea of climbing a 14er. For those living on flat ground that is a mountain. I think that would be pretty cool to accomplish that on a couple mountains. Either way we have to continue to feed the competition in all of our lives. At least for me its a competition with myself, not against anybody, although when people passed me in my 6 miles it really pissed me off and made me push myself even more.
As I run through my playlist I will tell you that I also had to have some reason to run. Mine was for dad. Well, let me clarify. Not actually for dad, but in spite of dad, for mom, in spite of his demons, just everything negative in that whole deal. So there were 2 main songs. The first song that I ran across the starting line with as I saw people running blind, or kids doing a mile crippled, or cyclers with no legs driving themselves in chariot like bikes; was the song in the Blog below. Read it and know that we own our own minds. These people paid no attention to what others were saying about them behind closed doors, they didnt give a rats fuck that people wondered how they were going to do it, they had a WAR in their mind and they were going to defeat it one way or another. The second one speaks a bit more to the reason I was running, and running, and running.....And helped me get through the finish line with my best friend and brother as I saw him fight his own war.
Goliath: Mars Volta:
When I seep inside your truth through suspicious little coughs
You sank your nails inside a key while the door you shut closed up
The black stockings you kept smell of wet cigarette
Torn of lust that you could not keep
I have slept inside your fault to have you keep me here on this leash (mom)
For the rest of your pets I will feed to this theft
As we consummate the vows of defeat
And when you pray for an end to this I do believe this is eternity
Never heard a man speak like this man before
All the days of my life ever since I've been born
Never heard a man speak like this man before
Watch me now
Say it, say it, say it loud
Hold your heavy burden
In a pocket full of drink that I have drunk
Spit the remnants in your direction
This is the closest to any kingdom that you will come
I'm starting to feel a miscarriage coming on
It's numbing a stump clearing in my throat
And I just can't lose grip of it
She fumigated my mental hygiene
I'm all out of pulse but I know you can resuscitate me
Pre's younger brother.

Read Carefully:
There's a war going on for your mind!!
Media mavens mount surgical strikes from trapper keeper collages and online magazine racks
Cover girl cutouts throw up pop-up ads
Infecting victims with silicone shrapnel
Worldwide passenger pigeons deploy paratroopers
Now it's raining pornography
Lovers take shelter
Post-production debutantes pursue you in nascar chariots
They construct ransom letters from biblical passages and bleed mascara into holy water supplies
There's a war going on for your mind
Industry insiders slang test tube babies to corporate crackheads
They flash logos and blast ghettos
Their embroidered neckties say "stop snitchin'"
Conscious rappers and whistleblowers get stitches made of acupuncture needles and marionette strings
There is a war going on for your mind
Professional wrestlers and vice presidents want you to believe them
The desert sky is their bluescreen
They superimpose explosions
They shout at you
"pay no attention to the men behind the barbed curtain
Nor the craters beneath the draped flags
Those hoods are there for your protection
And meteors these days are the size of corpses
There's a war going on for your mind!!!!

Best Weekend Ever?
Just to confirm before I begin. My weekend started on Thursday of last week and continues into tomorrow. Here is how it all went down.
Thursday: Got the chance to see my first show at Red Rocks. Thankfully it happened to be one of my favorite bands right now, the Black Keys. They opened for My Morning Jacket. Total toss up on who was better. I will tell you that other than maybe the White Stripes this is one of the better 2 man duos around. My Morning Jacket is by FAR the best "jam" band I have ever heard. After every song they spend about 4-6 min. just jamming through the song. I left you with a jam below from their show.(EDIT: Waiting for the Video to download. COMING SOON) Great time, great venue. One of the top shows I have seen so far this year.
Friday: I was able to score Broncos tix from Ebay for the three of us to go. Josh, Collin, Brooke and I went down early for some tailgating and tossing of the Fball. Heidi and TD rode the train down and met us at our tail gate spot. Good pre-season game against the Packers. Our seats were about 9 rows from the field and I scored them for an unbelievable price. Brookes first professional football game, so it was good all the way around. Heidi even scored by wearing an Eddie Mcaffery jersey that night.
Saturday: Nothing. Ran, worked out, did up the lawn, etc. Day of Rest.
Sunday: DNC protests began. Brooke, Heidi and I went downtown to check out some good old fashion protests. We had a rough start finding a place to park, but finally settled in close to the Capitol building. Walked around and finally found the march that we were looking for. Bunch of people walking in a march called "Funk the War". Very cool because we caught them in the 16th St Mall downtown. Kind of funny how fast you can become worried about your child, all the time watching to see if she was at all interested. Could tell that Heidi was a bit worried. Next thing we knew we were surrounded by the riot police. Nothing bad, just a bit of protesting. We left there and went back to the Capitol to sit for a spell. The march made their way back to the Capitol only to stop right in the middle of Broadway, which is the street right in front of the Capitol. Stopped traffic and again the next thing we knew there were about 75 cops in riot gear mounting up and making a wall to keep the mob from progressing. Very cool to hear them chant "our streets, our streets" The mob pushed forward, but finally got smart and stood their ground for about 20 min. Only carnage was a couple of bottles that were thrown at the cops. Very cool to know that we live in a county where you are able to express your feelings, opinions, etc. No matter what the hell others think. I just wish that us people were actually able to make REAL changes. We then left there to head home. Enough of worrying about Brooke for one day. We started on our way home to get off Highway 25 only to look out Heidis window and see the below. It was about 5-8 miles from our house. AMAZING. Most of you know how bad that I have wanted to see a tornado in my life and WALA there it was. We pulled over turned on the radio and checked it out for a bit. Truly amazing what mother nature is capable of......AWESOME.
Monday: Work. Fuck it.
Tuesday: Work. Fuck it.
Tomorrow: Oh yeah I forgot to tell the story that leads up to tomorrow. As some of you know Rage Against the machine is playing a FREE local show in protest of the War in Iraq. I started by freaking out trying to find every avenue to get a ticket. To begin with the only way to secure a ticket was through a lottery. I did some homework, found out that a group called Tent State was putting on the show. I did some homework and signed up to Volunteer for them, thinking in about 3 days I could get close enough to somebody that would give me tickets. WALA. I found a guy that needed some items donated for the Tent State group and in his email he stated what he needed and how many tickets that you would get for donating. I did my homework and drove to his abode and donated whatever in the hell he needed. I would have donated a kidney on the spot if he needed it. He took my name down by magic marker on a blank piece of paper and told me just to show up and I would be on their "guest list". Ok so I took his word for granted. I then got a bit worried about this dude, as I saw him leading the "Funk the War" protest thinking there is no way that this dude is going to get me in to see my most favorite band. I did some homework and sent him an email. Here was his email back and here is where I stand tonight.........Stay tuned as I attempt to get tickets tomorrow.
"As far as tickets, it's absolute. I may be a radical hippy (or recovering
hippy) but I'm still the producer of the show, so no worries."

Rocker Chick
Well, Brooke had her first meeting with the Rock and Roll Devil this weekend. No, I didn't take her to Metalica, or Slipknot, or even Rage for that matter. I had decided a couple of months ago that she was ready for her first concert. She was so pumped to see these dudes that she spent the night before making a sign to take, totally expressing her love for one of the members of the band named Joe. We picked up JD and C-pup to tag along. I think it was C-pups first concert as well. JD and I took them to a little 50s diner for dinner. Hamburger for Collin, mini-corn dogs for Brooke. Healthy meals for Josh and I as we duel it out to see who is going to be able to run the fastest 6 miles. Side Note: We as a family, if you haven't heard, were suckered in by Heidi to run a Marathon as a relay team. Heidi takes the 8 mile run, Josh and I both have a 6 and 6 mile run and TD gets the 5 mile run. Should be a sight to see.
Anywho we made our way over to the concert venue only to arrive to see the longest line I have ever seen to get into a concert. This frackin line traveled at least 4 blocks around corners and through streets. It was absolutely nuts. Josh and I used some previous concert knowledge and just rammed our way towards the front of the line with kids in tow. We made it to the gate only to have some two-bit concert whore tell us that we cant take signs into the venue, BUT she would make sure that the band gets the sign. She must have thought I was an absolute idiot, but it worked for Brooke. Brooke told me to make sure they gave it to Joe. Sure, whatever you want honey.
Next we decided to go ahead and make our way to the Merch Tent to get ourselves a t-shirt or whatever. Now I have been to a couple concerts, this was by far the most expensive ticket, the most expensive t-shirt, and the most expensive beer I have ever had and probably will ever have. Total before we heard one tune was topping $200.00. YIKES. Getting to the front of this thing was like standing at Lollapalooza and watching my friend eat some dudes back hair. Crowded. Brooke pushed and shoved her way to the front of the Merch Tent and got herself a t-shirt. Note to concert virgins: always try to get something that is show specific. Learned that from my brother. No decent posters for those wondering.
We finally make it to our seats, popcorn, beer and new t-shirt already on. Opening gal came out to sing. Decent. Brooke liked one song of hers and thankfully she played it. I would tell you who, but I still to this day cant pronounce or spell it. Next was the big show. You should have seen her eyes. WARNING: I just got back from the NHRA Drag Races with Josh this month. It was the most ear splitting sound that I have ever heard. When this band came out, other than my physical body rattling, the screams from all 7,000 plus 7-14 year old girls rivaled the NHRA Races. Holy b-jesus!!!!.
Brooke was into it from the start. Singing off tune, waiving her hands, rockin out with the devil fingers, and yes screaming at the top of her lungs. I actually had to tell her to chill a bit because I thought she was going to loose her voice. As a dad and an avid concert goer it was the coolest thing that I have seen from her since she was shot out of Heidis uterus. Now, hopefully she can progress to some bands that Dad might like to see, but for the time being this will work.
I will leave you all with a taste of the screaming fans, pyrotechnics, and teenage singing boys (yes they sang every song). Ladies and Gentlemen I introduce to you..........THE JONAS BROTHERS.
AHHHHHHHHHH (me screaming)
And the 2 Rockers chilling on the steps:

I will leave you all with a taste of the screaming fans, pyrotechnics, and teenage singing boys (yes they sang every song). Ladies and Gentlemen I introduce to you..........THE JONAS BROTHERS.
AHHHHHHHHHH (me screaming)
And the 2 Rockers chilling on the steps:

Blog Time
Ok kids, children, grandchildren, people that act like children; gather around for blog time. I really dont have much to blog about tonight. Watching Dane Cook....this guy is a nut job, but a funny nut job. Had a good 4th of July. Drank too much with friends-family and tried to take part of the day to remember a friend and mentor that was lost. Not going to dwell on that tonight, there is enough shit in life already. Who of us makes it though life without having a mentor? I mean a true mentor, somebody that takes you by the ears from day one and starts to mold you into something that he/she thinks you should strive to be. Also, it cant be a family member. Also, do we really need mentors?
So on the music scene my #1 is coming out with a new CD and side project. Please take the time to buy it up. The name of the band is "One Day as a Lion". Here is how thought provoking this dude is....here is his explanation of the band:
“One Day As A Lion is both a warning delivered and a promise kept.”
“A defiant affirmation of the possibilities that exist in the space between kick and snare. It’s a sonic reflection of the visceral tension between a picturesque fabricated cultural landscape, and the brutal socioeconomic realities it attempts to mask. One Day As A Lion is a recorded interaction between Zack de la Rocha and Jon Theodore from Los Angeles, California.”
“The name taken from the infamous 1970 black and white, captured by legendary Chicano photographer George Rodriguez featuring a center framed tag on a white wall in an unspecified section of Boyle Heights. It reads: ‘It’s better to live one day as a lion, than a thousand years as a lamb.’ This record is a stripped down attempt to realize this sentiment in sound.”
Powerful.
Please keep all eyes out for me on CNN the week of the DNC. More to come.

Fruitcakes
No lyrics to start tonight, although I cant promise I wont end with em. No videos tonight and I promise that I wont end with one. Maybe a Milli Vanilli video for Melissa just to help her sleep. Well as most that read these stupid rants of mine know my parents are on the fritz. Got to see the highest part of love this weekend and at the same time saw the lowest part of love all in one set of vows. My older cuz got married to what seemed to be a pretty cool cat. Wedding was good and they seemed to be very, very happy. While at the same time sat by my father and could feel the sadness peel off my skin. Although I think it was good for him to hear those vows to realize what he fucked over. Blahblah. I am sick of hearing about it and sick of everybody giving their opinions about it. They are 50+ year old grown adults and I have the utmost faith that they will figure it out. Here to help, but done with opinions. Here to talk, but done with talking about what they need to do. Here for them, but so far away.
Watching the religious right try to knock Obama off his throne. James Dobson. Damn I was hoping that I wouldnt hear that name ever again. I had enough of that douche bag in my life already. The sticker on my fridge says it all...."Focus on your own damn family."
Cuz. It was great to hang out with you and see you at the wedding. You are a much better person that you think you are and I only wish you the best in your struggles. We all love you and are hear to help in anyway that we can. How is your ankle??? :)
As we all question our place in the world, our decisions in the world, our bringing up in this world, etc. Read below.
I'm questioning my education
Is my education who I am now?
While you're deciding, I've been finding
Looking around in the here and now.
If I've been taught from the beginning
Would my fears now be winning?
I'm questioning my own equation
Is my own equation relevant somehow?
The flags are waving, the news is breaking
See the man who can't pick out his own tie
If I've been taught from the beginning
Would my fears now be winning?
A wild world, figuring out the answers
I'll be in my own dance and I, I, yeah, I, I....
I'm questioning my education
Rewind and what does it show?
Could be, the truth it becomes you
I'm a seed, wondering why it grows

Meccamputechture
Meaning:
Lyrics that you cant understand unless you read every word.
Amputechture came Philistine praise Bottomless pit of empty names Incarcerated habit tore from the palms Severing the breast Melting on his arms
Beneath those locks Of dirty red hair A necklace of follicles with sabertooth monocles They want a bouquet of black rose gems Castrating kisses stalactite stems They went and built a capsule in the cyanide one Where the holiest of water would have you to drown
Tomorrow is a gift ‘Cause now is never left You gotta find my body In the Mecca context
You give me a corpse You live in it now You’re staring from unkempt nourishment plows
You give me a corpse You live in it now You’re staring from unkempt nourishment plows
Please dismantle all this phantom limbs It’s the evidence of humans as ornaments Humans as ornaments Humans as ornaments Humans as ornaments
Everyone stares all the time Persuasion deflowers your sympathy Everybody’s choosing to hold these shovels and burying me
This stir is turning Christ to make repent again So I’ve heard They’re cutting all the youngest ones Said this dirt is turning Christ to make repent his lust So I’ve heard That the puppets tugs its pull
Please dismantle all this phantom limbs It’s the evidence of humans as ornaments Humans as ornaments Humans as ornaments Humans as ornaments
Everyone stares all the time Persuasion deflowers your sympathy Everybody’s choosing to hold these shovels and burying me
Now for meat The pin slipped whispers of both of our heaps Swept to an earth of Magdalen’s frowns Prune fingers who tug at a zealot’s shroud
I obsconse supreme truth as it touches this house I obsconse supreme truth…
Repeat Chorus. And Watch Passion.

Heidis Marathon
After months of long runs, lots of doubts and reflection I finished another milestone conquoring the 26.2 mile beast. In my training and then running a marathon I realized that I am not special or unique anyone can do what I did today, it is all a matter of setting your mind to something and not STOPPING (literally today) until your reach that goal. I know this even more today than ever after seeing all the different people competing not against eachother but against the "beast!" There was an older couple, saying older kindly, that was shuffle along the marathon together to be the very last to finish, but they finished! Anyone can do what I did today, it all goes back to my mauntra to get through all those long runs "I CAN FOR THOSE WHO WON'T"

Old Revolutionary to the New
For you T-Man.
The deputy sheriffs, the soldiers, the governors get paid,
And the marshals and cops get the same,
But the poor white man's used in the hands of them all like a tool.
He's taught in his school
From the start by the rule
That the laws are with him
To protect his white skin
To keep up his hate
So he never thinks straight
'Bout the shape that he's in
But it ain't him to blame
He's only a pawn in their game.
From the poverty shacks, he looks from the cracks to the tracks,
And the hoof beats pound in his brain.
And he's taught how to walk in a pack
Shoot in the back
With his fist in a clinch
To hang and to lynch
To hide 'neath the hood
To kill with no pain
Like a dog on a chain
He ain't got no name
But it ain't him to blame
He's only a pawn in their game.
Today, Medgar Evers was buried from the bullet he caught.
They lowered him down as a king.
But when the shadowy sun sets on the one
That fired the gun
He'll see by his grave
On the stone that remains
Carved next to his name
His epitaph plain:
Only a pawn in their game.

?
If you are up there watching tonight would be a good night for one of these....
life is much too short
to sit and wonder
who's gonna make the next move
and will slowly pull you under
when you've always got
something to prove
i don't want to wait a lifetime
yours or mine
can't you see me reaching
for the lifeline
you say that i misheard you
but i think you misspoke
i hear you laugh so loudly
while i patiently await the joke
i don't want to wait a lifetime
not yours
not mine
can't you see me reaching
for the lifeline
it's a crime with only victims
we're all laid out in a row
and it's hardest to listen
to what we already should know
i could hold out for a lifetime
yours or mine
yours and mine
can't you see me reaching for
your lifeline
life is much too short
to sit and wonder
who's gonna make the next move
and will slowly pull you under
when you've always got
something to prove
i don't want to wait a lifetime
yours or mine

I Give!!!
Ok. I am in need of reading more about this but before I read about it I have to talk it through with somebody. Blogging world you are here to listen. I might sound like an old grandpa, but I dont care. I remember when gas prices were .99 in Tulsa growing up. Now I am going to give the benefit of the doubt that Oklahoma had very low gas prices. I was probably 16-18 years old when this was taking place. For sake of argument I am going to say that the average in those times was around $1.20 per gallon.
SO that was lets say 15 years ago. Here are the only 2 logical explanations as to why gas prices have doubled and in some cases probably tripled.
a. Our supply is getting lower.
b. We are all taking it up the prostrate zone.
Now lets take "a". There is the argument that we have become more dependant on oil. Seriously, so you are telling me that in 15 years we depend on 3 times as much oil as we used to. So to make that argument you would have to almost say that the population has more than doubled in those 15 years. Is that possible? Cant use the excuse of bigger trucks, blah, blah blah. We have to give credit to ourselves and hope that our trucks, cars, planes and all are more efficient now than 15 years ago. Not just efficient on gas, but on all aspects.
Now lets take the argument that we are more dependant on oil. If we do away with oil as much as possible wont whatever we use in its place cost us more anyway. Take Hybrid cars as an example, although a bad one. Hybrid cars are about $4-5,000 more than regular cars. Now either you spend an extra 4-5000 in fuel each year due to gas prices or you spend that money on a Hybrid. Either way its effecting your pocket. Now maybe an argument is that it cost more in the short term, but its better for the long term. Then the next argument will be that their is still a better solution than the Hybrids and should be an all electrical car. So my questions is when does this vicious circle stop or better yet will it ever stop?
This is what would be called the fall of an empire. When an empire gets to its crescent, then what else does it have to do otehr than eat itself out from the inside. In other words the empire starts to turn on itself. Have we as a nation begun to fall into that cycle?
That leaves us to option "b". I don't honestly think its the oil companies sticking it to us. Lets take the supply and demand metaphor. If in our industry (relocation) our trucks began to vanish and the supply of moving trucks went away what is the first thing that would happen? We would raise our costs. Oil companies are raising their cost in order to facilitate the demand as the supply starts to vanish. Do they need to raise it that high? who knows. Who do I blame? US Government. I am sure you all know that on every dollar you pay at the pump the government is getting paid. Here in CO we pay over .20 per gallon to the state. Then we also pay $.18 to the Federal Government. While I dont agree with McCain on much of anything what he is talking about doing is taking away these taxes for the summer in order to get some money back into our pockets. Makes sense.
All I know is that somebody is making a ton of profit, we are paying a ton of money, and somehow our nation is going to hell in 2 hand baskets. Will somebody please throw us in the "middle class" a f-in bone!

TBK
One of the most remarkable shows I have ever been able to view and to top it all off got to see it with Big Bro and Dad. Nobody other than RATM and PJ can put on a great sounding show like these guys. This is not from the show, but hopefully I can find one soon from the show.
The night/afternoon started at a restaurant called the Irish Snug. Dropped a couple Guinness. Then our travels took us to Sanchos Broken Arrow. Its a Greatful Dead bar that we knew dad would love. Good tunes and just good people. Always great to sit at the bar and look at all their stickers.
During our stay at Sanchos we met another poster buddy from Expresso Beans. His name was Dave and he invited us to a little "speak easy". It was a very small room under a cigar shop. Weird vibe in there, but it was cool. Dad stayed upstairs and smoked a cigar or one of his 123 cigs for the day/night and read the paper....ehhhhhh Grandpa Hump style. From there we wondered right next door to the Ogden. No poster for the show which was by far the worst part of the night.
Opener was Jay Reatard and we could have done without him. Black Keys rocked out all of the great songs as well as had a stellar light show going on during the songs. One of my top 5 shows in my life. Hope to see them again as soon as possible. Enjoy.
