Well, Brooke had her first meeting with the Rock and Roll Devil this weekend. No, I didn't take her to Metalica, or Slipknot, or even Rage for that matter. I had decided a couple of months ago that she was ready for her first concert. She was so pumped to see these dudes that she spent the night before making a sign to take, totally expressing her love for one of the members of the band named Joe. We picked up JD and C-pup to tag along. I think it was C-pups first concert as well. JD and I took them to a little 50s diner for dinner. Hamburger for Collin, mini-corn dogs for Brooke. Healthy meals for Josh and I as we duel it out to see who is going to be able to run the fastest 6 miles. Side Note: We as a family, if you haven't heard, were suckered in by Heidi to run a Marathon as a relay team. Heidi takes the 8 mile run, Josh and I both have a 6 and 6 mile run and TD gets the 5 mile run. Should be a sight to see.
Anywho we made our way over to the concert venue only to arrive to see the longest line I have ever seen to get into a concert. This frackin line traveled at least 4 blocks around corners and through streets. It was absolutely nuts. Josh and I used some previous concert knowledge and just rammed our way towards the front of the line with kids in tow. We made it to the gate only to have some two-bit concert whore tell us that we cant take signs into the venue, BUT she would make sure that the band gets the sign. She must have thought I was an absolute idiot, but it worked for Brooke. Brooke told me to make sure they gave it to Joe. Sure, whatever you want honey.
Next we decided to go ahead and make our way to the Merch Tent to get ourselves a t-shirt or whatever. Now I have been to a couple concerts, this was by far the most expensive ticket, the most expensive t-shirt, and the most expensive beer I have ever had and probably will ever have. Total before we heard one tune was topping $200.00. YIKES. Getting to the front of this thing was like standing at Lollapalooza and watching my friend eat some dudes back hair. Crowded. Brooke pushed and shoved her way to the front of the Merch Tent and got herself a t-shirt. Note to concert virgins: always try to get something that is show specific. Learned that from my brother. No decent posters for those wondering.
We finally make it to our seats, popcorn, beer and new t-shirt already on. Opening gal came out to sing. Decent. Brooke liked one song of hers and thankfully she played it. I would tell you who, but I still to this day cant pronounce or spell it. Next was the big show. You should have seen her eyes. WARNING: I just got back from the NHRA Drag Races with Josh this month. It was the most ear splitting sound that I have ever heard. When this band came out, other than my physical body rattling, the screams from all 7,000 plus 7-14 year old girls rivaled the NHRA Races. Holy b-jesus!!!!.
Brooke was into it from the start. Singing off tune, waiving her hands, rockin out with the devil fingers, and yes screaming at the top of her lungs. I actually had to tell her to chill a bit because I thought she was going to loose her voice. As a dad and an avid concert goer it was the coolest thing that I have seen from her since she was shot out of Heidis uterus. Now, hopefully she can progress to some bands that Dad might like to see, but for the time being this will work.
I will leave you all with a taste of the screaming fans, pyrotechnics, and teenage singing boys (yes they sang every song). Ladies and Gentlemen I introduce to you..........THE JONAS BROTHERS.
AHHHHHHHHHH (me screaming)
And the 2 Rockers chilling on the steps:

Blog Time
Ok kids, children, grandchildren, people that act like children; gather around for blog time. I really dont have much to blog about tonight. Watching Dane Cook....this guy is a nut job, but a funny nut job. Had a good 4th of July. Drank too much with friends-family and tried to take part of the day to remember a friend and mentor that was lost. Not going to dwell on that tonight, there is enough shit in life already. Who of us makes it though life without having a mentor? I mean a true mentor, somebody that takes you by the ears from day one and starts to mold you into something that he/she thinks you should strive to be. Also, it cant be a family member. Also, do we really need mentors?
So on the music scene my #1 is coming out with a new CD and side project. Please take the time to buy it up. The name of the band is "One Day as a Lion". Here is how thought provoking this dude is....here is his explanation of the band:
“One Day As A Lion is both a warning delivered and a promise kept.”
“A defiant affirmation of the possibilities that exist in the space between kick and snare. It’s a sonic reflection of the visceral tension between a picturesque fabricated cultural landscape, and the brutal socioeconomic realities it attempts to mask. One Day As A Lion is a recorded interaction between Zack de la Rocha and Jon Theodore from Los Angeles, California.”
“The name taken from the infamous 1970 black and white, captured by legendary Chicano photographer George Rodriguez featuring a center framed tag on a white wall in an unspecified section of Boyle Heights. It reads: ‘It’s better to live one day as a lion, than a thousand years as a lamb.’ This record is a stripped down attempt to realize this sentiment in sound.”
Powerful.
Please keep all eyes out for me on CNN the week of the DNC. More to come.
